Overview
In this seminar, the speaker will discuss effective communication between caregivers and children to ensure mutual safety and well-being. With the speaker’s expertise and the impactful courses, the speaker’s team offers practical suggestions and action plans for creating a safe and nurturing environment. Key topics covered include positive communication, fostering a growth mindset, emotional check-ins, and engaging activities to apply the neurobiology in how we choose good decisions.
The speaker’s team emphasises the significance of well-being and safety by highlighting their role in child development, emotional and mental health, physical health, and building trust and communication. Prioritising well-being and safety enables children to thrive, learn, and reach their full potential. It promotes emotional well-being, resilience, and positive coping strategies. Safety measures protect physical well-being. By fostering well-being and safety, caregivers can establish trust and open communication, addressing risks and strengthening relationships.
The topics equip caregivers and children with knowledge and tools to effectively communicate and collaborate with their children, ensuring their safety and well-being. The courses have yielded significant outcomes and deliverables. By mid-2024, the team has empowered 2,500+ children and caregivers through 113 courses and 14 workshops. Evaluation using a community scorecard co-designed with 300 Hong Kong children and caregivers demonstrated that learners experienced a remarkable 20% increase in health and behaviours that sustained for over six months post-course compared to pre-course.
The impact on individuals is profound, with 50% of learners exhibiting improvements in emotional regulation, well-being, danger awareness, rejection of unsafe actions, help-seeking behaviours, family trust, and community belonging. Transformations were shared by children who learned to protect themselves, as well as caregivers who reinforced appropriate actions and empowered them.
Overall, the research and programmes have demonstrated tangible improvements in well-being, safety, and community engagement of children and caregivers, and the speaker’s team strongly believes that the participants will also benefit from them.
