Blue Innovation and Entrepreneurship: Empowering Future Leaders through STEAM Education
InnoSTEMer
Overview
With the prevalence of electronic technology products, schools nowadays encounter more challenges. Christian Alliance S.Y. Yeh Memorial Primary School students often have difficulty consistently participating in physical activities because they spend most of their time using electronic devices. As a result, they fail to accumulate the recommended minimum of 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day. Additionally, beyond regular physical education classes, students often lack the motivation to engage in sports activities independently.
To tie in with the World Health Organization's recommendation that children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 should accumulate at least an average of 60 minutes daily of moderate to vigorous-intensity physical activity (referred to as ‘MVPA60’) across the week and to support schools in promoting a sports ambience and ‘MVPA60’ in conjunction with the development of physical education curricular, a series of sports programmes have been developed. These programmes fully implement ‘Sports + Technology’ by providing a platform and hardware equipment to assist teachers and students in collecting extensive data to understand students' sports performance. The school's ‘EduDX Fitness’ mobile application provides an e-platform for students to upload their daily exercise records, moving away from traditional paper methods. Students can record their activities through photos or videos, creating an electronic fitness activity log that gives them a sense of achievement and satisfaction. The app also introduces a pioneering sports rewards programme integrated into the school’s reward programme to enhance students' interest in sports and enthusiasm for exercise, resulting in positive outcomes.
Furthermore, recognising that teachers also have difficulty monitoring each student's exercise performance and habits, the EduDX Fitness platform aggregates data uploaded by students to generate reports for teachers. These reports include students' participation levels / status, allowing teachers to offer suggestions for individual students. It also assists teachers in quickly generating MVPA60/fitness reports, which helps reduce their administrative workload and promote a cheerful sports ambience in schools.
Participants of this open lesson will understand:
• case studies that strengthen students' interest in physical education and assist them in establishing a healthy lifestyle; and
• how to utilise technology / AI to collect big data and analyse student performance to enhance their sports training and competitive levels.
