Overview
The government is actively promoting STEAM and artificial intelligence (AI) education with the aim of engaging students through accessible, entertaining, and diverse approaches. The goal is to incorporate innovative technology into education. Simultaneously, information literacy, as a key part of holistic education, emphasises the ethical use of information and the application of technology across various learning areas, helping students recognise their information needs. In mainstream education, interdisciplinary collaboration — spanning subjects such as Technology, English, Chinese, and Science — is used to boost students’ creativity, problem-solving skills, and general competencies.
The innovative technology school-based curriculum (Learning Together in Innovation) covers AI prompt engineering, helping students master AI communication and tools like Stable Diffusion. In the English subject, students learn English prompt writing to enhance both motivation and practical writing skills. In the Chinese subject, they transform real-life photos into visual art and write essays to increase their interest in writing. The Science subject collaborates with Chinese and extracurricular activities to introduce fisheries knowledge, where students work with the school’s TV station to produce fisheries programmes, acting as AI anchors. It is expected that the participants will be inspired by the lecture: the course design emphasises the importance of AI and STEAM education, showcasing how interdisciplinary collaboration enhances students’ creativity, problem-solving skills, and information literacy. Participants will learn how generative AI is applied in various subjects: AI prompt writing in Technology, generative AI self-assessments in English, visual arts creation and recitation in Chinese, and collaborative projects such as fisheries exploration and AI television production between Science and Chinese.
Moreover, the course highlights AI’s role in national security and cultural safety. Students are introduced to the broad applications of AI and its impact on traditional industries, helping them understand how modern technologies play a crucial role in national security, the preservation of cultural heritage, and cultural transmission. During fisheries exploration and AI television production, students experience firsthand how AI improves the efficiency of the fisheries industry and contributes to ecological protection, which is an essential aspect of national security education regarding ecological safety.
The course also underscores the concept of cultural safety. Through Chinese culture-themed exhibitions and AI television channel production, students not only learn to use generative AI technology to create and express cultural content but also deepen their understanding of Chinese culture and strengthen their cultural heritage awareness. These activities equip students with future-ready skills while fostering moral values and critical thinking abilities, preparing them for future challenges.
Participants expect that this educational model will significantly increase students’ learning motivation and engagement, deepen their understanding of the interdependence between technology and culture, and ultimately enhance their personal competitiveness. Simultaneously, it will cultivate a stronger sense of responsibility toward national security and cultural heritage preservation.
