Advanced Cross-disciplinary Learning Programme: Underwater Drone Archaeologist

Future Learning Theatre

Overview

Hong Kong's waters are rich in resources and underwater cultural heritage. To harness these, this school has acquired an underwater robot and designed a two-year, three-tier theoretical and practical programme for students:
 studying the structure and principles of the underwater robot;
 recording corals in the Sai Kung waters;
 inviting international marine archaeology expert Dr Bill Jeffery to give a lecture;
 filming underwater artifacts at Tap Mun and Fo Tau Fan Chau;
 learning 2D measurement and underwater survey software; and
 collaborating with the Hong Kong Maritime Museum to share this school’s research findings.

This project successfully integrated six school subjects – Physics, Geography, Chemistry, History, Tourism and Hospitality Studies, and Information and Communication Technology – through the activities. Leveraging the unique features of each subject's curriculum, the speaker’s team collaboratively designed the relevant learning content. The project took the form of field studies, enabling students to directly engage in and practice advanced cross-disciplinary learning activities and topics.

The project was reported to the Hong Kong Maritime Museum by this school's teachers, and this school’s teachers and students were invited to share the project results with the public at the museum.

Participants of this seminar will:
1. explore Advanced Cross-disciplinary Learning; and
2. be inspired to the Development of Advanced School-based Curriculum
