Adopting Literature Maker and MOOCs to Enhance Cross-curricular Learning in STREAM and Promote Global Exposure
K12 Theatre
Overview
This school advocates for innovative cross-curricular programmes that foster creativity, English reading, and problem-solving skills. To broaden students' horizons, the speaker’s team has introduced Self-regulated Learning (SRL) Laboratory and there are two major components, namely, SRL Literature Maker programmes and STREAM-related Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
To nurture creativity in maker and science discovery in the SRL Literature Maker curriculum, our approach involves utilising classic science fiction works, such as Frankenstein and Sherlock Holmes, alongside other STREAM-related literature. By incorporating these texts, the speaker’s team aims to activate students' existing knowledge frameworks and engage them in design thinking processes that foster critical and problem-solving skills. The speaker’s team strives to promote the application of technology enhancements in their daily lives, encouraging students to explore the intersection of imagination, science, and real-world applications.
In the Laboratory, the teachers encourage students’ participation in MOOCs offered by universities worldwide. From 2021 to 2024, over 250 participants completed over 400 MOOCs from institutions such as Harvard, Imperial College London, and Yale. Students demonstrated the ability to choose MOOCs aligned with their interests and engaged in their learning.
