Overview
This seminar will showcase the Year 6 career planning curriculum of this school as a model to discuss the creation of a student-centred, experiential career planning curriculum. This curriculum supports self-discovery, an understanding of various professions, and future planning, all whilst fostering positive values and learning attitudes. It utilises scientific tools such as the Holland Code career interest test and the MBTI personality test. Through interactive simulation activities like 'Life Auction' and 'Career Battle'; it promotes learning in small groups and peer interaction, enabling students to reflect on their values, interests, and abilities, and to prepare for future studies and careers. The experiences and outcomes presented will reflect the collaborative efforts of the school’s curriculum development team and teaching staff. The seminar will also cover key strategies for implementing an effective primary school career planning curriculum in Hong Kong and discuss holistic approaches to enhancing positive values and learning attitudes.
After being implemented at this school, the curriculum demonstrated significant success. It involved active participation from all school teachers and parents in both teaching and experiential activities, showcasing effective home-school collaboration. Students engaged enthusiastically with the programme, reporting improved self-understanding and clearer future direction. Extensive surveys and interviews confirmed positive feedback from students, parents, and teachers, who praised the curriculum's innovation and effectiveness in boosting self-awareness and career planning capabilities.
