Well-being & Inclusive Learning Theatre
Overview
Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Moral Education Curriculum Extension Scheme is unique experience of local curriculum design of values education. This curriculum, subject-oriented, matches with the syllabi of local primary and secondary education. Through the introduction of the social phenomenon and the subject knowledge, it nurtures students with humanistic spirit and raises their understanding of traditional Chinese culture and values. It aims at cultivating among them a sense of belonging towards the country and a sense of national identity.
The team’s approaches to the curriculum design of values education are integrating values education into subject learning and one blueprint multiple texts. When developing the teaching materials, various seminars and sharing sessions are organised for educators. 27 topics are selected from our existing syllabi of Chinese language and Humanities of primary schools and secondary schools. Besides the data from the textbooks, the teaching materials are enriched with records and archive from Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. They are rigorously proofread by various experts and attempted to be used in different classes. In the tryout lessons and demonstration classes, teachers are encouraged to make appropriate curriculum adaptation based on the uniqueness of their schools and students.
Integrating values education into subject learning has been encouraged in the local education but the scheme puts this into practice systematically and resourcefully. Most of the Tung Wah schools join hand-to-hand to develop their school-based and even class-based texts, realising the dream: integrating values education into subject learning and one blueprint multiple texts. With the generous support from a donor, the scheme also receives assistance from a businessman in moral education curriculum design. All the above are worth sharing with local educators.
