Promoting Chinese Culture to Young Children through Chinese Visual Arts
K12 Theatre
Overview
Traditional Chinese visual arts embody a rich tapestry of cultural values, heavily influenced by the principles of balance, harmony, and the appreciation of natural beauty. Children can understand Chinese culture by exploring these aesthetic principles. By engaging with Chinese visual arts in their daily lives, children can gain knowledge and develop a deeper appreciation for these cultural values.
This seminar will introduce a variety of teaching strategies aimed at enhancing children's aesthetic literacy and promoting creativity. These strategies will also cultivate their observational abilities and deepen their appreciation of Chinese culture. Additionally, the seminar will showcase an online learning platform developed by the Department of Early Childhood Education at The Education University of Hong Kong. This platform is designed to help pre-service kindergarten teachers understand Chinese culture through the appreciation of Chinese visual arts. It will provide foundational knowledge to these teachers, aiding them in designing activities that cultivate children's appreciation of Chinese culture.
