Using Educational Multimedia Resources to Facilitate English Language Learning
K12 Theatre
Overview
The effective use of educational multimedia (EMM) resources can prove advantageous for the language learning of students with diverse learning needs by facilitating multimodal information processing (Chapelle, 2005; Mayer, 2014). By effectively leveraging these resources, teachers can create dynamic and interactive learning environments that enhance students' language acquisition, cater to diverse learning styles and engage students more deeply in the learning process.
In this seminar, using EMM resources to enhance learning and teaching of English language in Hong Kong classrooms will be explored. The session will also introduce a variety of EMM resources such as short videos, animations, picture books/e-books, interactive games, etc. as well as to advise teachers on how to select appropriate EMM resources and seamlessly integrate them into existing curricula to meet teachers’ needs.
According to past interviews and collaborative experiences with teachers, they often used multimedia resources in the English language teaching to enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching. The students' reactions and feedback were also encouraging. Teachers tended to use multimedia resources more for pre-lesson activities or post-lesson consolidation, which not only effectively sparked students' interest in learning but also sustained their learning motivation over extended periods and reinforced what they had learnt.
Through this seminar, participants will:
1. Learn more about EDB EMM resources for English language learning and teaching in primary and secondary schools; and
2. Learn to locate suitable English language learning and teaching resources from the EDB EMM website to implement the school-based curriculum.
