How Interdisciplinary Maker Class Cultivates Students’ Understanding of Chinese Virtue

Overview

Creative thinking is even more important in a future where artificial intelligence is poised to replace a large number of jobs. This session aims to share the process and experience of the speaker’s school in developing a maker class programme for a girl's school, including how to train students' problem-solving and communication skills through a school-based digital art creation project.

Cultivating students' values and national identity is also important for their personal growth. The speaker will also share how to incorporate Chinese idols’ stories into the maker class curriculum. By encouraging students to illustrate these idols’ virtues, students could have a better understanding of Chinese virtue and positive values. The school could also taste the cross-disciplinary collaboration among different subject groups in the school. The speaker will share with the audience the development process of the school-based maker class program, including the process of cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the process of how school integrate positive values and Chinese historical figures with the school's context and characteristics.

In addition, the speaker will demonstrate the operation of the digital art creation platform and share with the participants the students' showcases as well as other possible extended learning programmes.

Participants of this open lesson will understand:
1. how to deliver positive values and educational messages to students in an interesting way;
2. recommendation of a free digital art content creation platform for class delivery; and
3. the latest developments of the digital art industry.
