NCS Students Use Technology to Learn Chinese: From Theory to Application
K12 Theatre
Overview
The speaker started a Chinese learning project in their school-based lesson, iFuture. As the students come from different countries, they have different mother language, culture and religion. One of their learning difficulties is Chinese writing. They find it hard to memorise the writing patterns and position of Chinese words.
The talk is mainly about the sharing of the objective, progress and teaching and learning outcomes of students in this Chinese learning project. One of the relevant outcome is the EPIC ( Expansive classroom, Professional extension, Inclusive education and Cultivation of values) framework. The framework is applicable to different teaching and learning environment. Using the EPIC framework, both teachers and students have successful teaching and learning experience.
Another deliverable is the Apple Chinese learning app. The students design a Chinese learning app for NCS students to learn Chinese. The students can do matching game to learn the Chinese word pattern and positions. The teachers also can change the levels of questions for different forms.
Participants of this seminar will understand:
1. the EPIC framework and explore the possibility to apply to their own lessons;
2. appreciate the experience of how interdisciplinary learning happened in a NCS secondary school; and
3. recognise the Apple Chinese learning app and share the experience of developing an Apple app.
